We open our social media feeds and see marches and signs waving, maybe we’re waving them ourselves. We share our hearts, we hashtag #metoo, we see people putting words to experiences we’ve been too afraid to voice. And yet, we don’t always feel like we fully belong there in the heat of the those movements, our voices aren’t entirely welcome in that sphere. Then we close our phones, settle into our seats a church and sometimes find that though we know all the words to all the songs, and love our faith families, we sometimes can’t seem feel fully at rest there either. We can’t shake the feeling that faith has played out differently for us than we thought it would. We are Jesus-worshipping women, fed up with the tired gender roles church has to offer us. We’re thirsty for authenticity, and impassioned for the Gospel of Jesus. We crave something raw and real, something that sounds like hope but doesn’t ask us to disengage from the reality of our humanity. We’re sisters, daughters, professionals, prophets, breadwinners, homemakers, wives, theologians, single mothers, creatives, teachers and all of us just women who need a place to feel free. I will make a helper suitable for him.” - Genesis 2:18 // Did you know that the word “helper” used in this text is also translated to mean “strength”, “savior” or “rescuer” and is used 16 other times in the Bible to describe God himself? It’s never used to describe a inferior or weaker vessel. What this says to us about God’s plan for women is that we were created with a mission and a purpose. We’re created for collaboration, leadership, with abilities and gifts that are crucial to life. #wearewomankinde
